some full disclosure; I've
known Steve since early 2009 and we've even been business partners.
Also, I reviewed a very late beta copy of the
product so it's probably
better than when I saw it :-)
However, knowing Steve like I do, I believe part
of the reason he asked
me to review his new product is that he knows I will be honest, good or
bad.
Like Steve, I've sent millions of e-mails, have
studied the science of
crafting responsive e-mail, and have tested the heck out of the From
name, subject lines, and e-mail body contents so I know something about
sending e-mail.
Steve doesn't cover the entire gamut of e-mail
marketing, a huge topic,
instead choosing to focus, and provide depth, on one specific aspect:
getting the e-mail you send delivered to the recipient and get it
opened by them.
This includes:
# How and why you should use the From
field to bond with your subscribers so that when they see an e-mail
they know it's from you and something they want to read.
# The psychological triggers you want to use in the subject line that
literally compels people to open the e-mail.
# How to improve the responsiveness of your list by using something as
simple as the From field to weed the deadwood from your list; these are
the people you don't want anyway because they aren't the buyers.
# Why all the gurus are tricking you when they tout their high open
rate and what you should be focusing on if you want to make real money
from your list.
# Why you should be using the 4-letter F-word you've been told to avoid
like the plague.
# How to instantly measure how effective an e-mail is using his simple
"acid" formula.
# His "secret weapon" that even I didn't know and had never heard
anyone teach before; it's a great idea and I'll be stealing it :-)
# The little known tool he uses to hone his subject lines for maximum
effectiveness.
In each section, he explains to you why you
should do certain things and why you shouldn't do certain things and he
shows you specific examples so the concepts can solidify and be
retained in your mind and not just be theoretical stuff that quickly
fades away.
There are some things of real note in Steve's
60+ page "report":
✓ First, he is showing you how to use
your e-mail list to very effectively build a long term business of
responsive subscribers as opposed to what so many other marketers show
you of using methods of questionable ethics to get a lot of opens and
then a lot of unsubscribes.
✓ Second, unless you are a complete beginner,
you will likely have
heard of some or many of the things Steve says. However, the value of
the refresher is there and you'll probably pick up a few things -- I
did and, to be honest, I didn't expect to.
✓ Third, Steve has a unique style. It's a very
different way of
conveying information both in his words and his formatting; including
his unique sense of humor. Some people will love it and some will hate
it but it will be different and, even if it isn't your style, there are
a lot of nuggets for you to mine if you give it a chance.
✓ Fourth, it does not cover, at least in any
significant depth, crafting
the body of an e-mail; he rightly points out that this is an even
larger topic and beyond the scope of his focus, but I hope it's the
topic for his next product :-)
I think this is important for me to let you know
so you have the proper expectations and aren't disappointed because you
thought it was something different than it is and miss the real value
it does contain.
Do I agree with everything Steve says? No, I
don't.
There are a couple of things he and I disagree
on but everything he
says is excellent information and if you did everything he said to do,
just as he shows you, you'd be as good or better than 99% of the other
marketers out there and you'd have greater success with your e-mail
marketing.
The Bottom Line:
This is a great product for beginners and those
struggling to be
effective with their e-mail campaigns.
Just remember the focus of this product is on
getting your e-mail
delivered and opened but he spends 60+ pages carefully doing that so
you're getting some good stuff.
Just follow Steve's advice and you'll start off
right and continue to
improve.
Steve is his own best proof of that because when
I met him he had a
list of a few hundred and now I think his lists total close to 30,000?
Not bad for just over 2 years! He does know what
he's talking about.
For advanced people, as I said, it's a nice
refresher and it's likely
you'll find a few things you can use and he talks some about
relationship building which is a topic frequently missed by other
products and by many marketers.
And everyone can have a chance to enjoy Steve's
unique style!!!

Marketing," is one of the few reports I have seen that actually
dissects, analyzes and evaluates the most important aspects of
marketing emails.
Many of the other ones launch right off into
subject lines and internal copy and are more like copywriting courses
than they are marketing advice.
Not this one. Steve gets right to the heart of the
matter:
How to make sure your email gets seen and opened
instead of being deleted or caught by spam filters.
It's not that Steve doesn't address good subject
line writing and copywriting; he does.
Steve even talks about a "secret" tool he uses to
analyze and score headlines to make them more effective.
Beyond that, however, the report focuses on things
like why you should always use your own name for the "From" field; why
you should always write your own emails; and, why personalizing subject
lines is so powerful.
I don't want to give too much away here, but I do
want to say that one chapter finally solved a conflict for me.
I had taken advice of other list builders and
stopped collecting names along with the mail addresses.
Bad idea. Steve lays it all out in "The Most

There are two things about the report that I
didn't like:

He is always using the disclaimer that English is
not his first language but frankly, I find his writing better than many
people born and raised in the US.

relationship with my subscribers and I will definitely be able to use
